LRG, a California based streetwear brand, has made it a mission to put their support behind projects capturing urban culture across the world, specifically art and music. For their latest endeavor, they have joined with Beatwise Recordings, an independent São Paulo record label, to release a vinyl LP commemorating the second anniversary of the label. This record will include eight tracks from the from each of Beatwise producers, encompassing a diverse range of styles and rhythms focused through the lens of instrumental hip hop — from Jazz to Detroit Techno, from Footwork to English Dubstep.
Preceding the release of the record, Beatwise and LRG created eight short films documenting the day-to-day life of the eight producers on the label — Abud, Bento, CESRV, Cybass, MJP, Sants, SonoTWS and Soul One. The idea behind the films was to document the new generation of Brazilian beatsmiths and the cultural ramifications of the music they create.
For LRG, this release is their second foray into the Brazilian Music scene. “Our objective is to show that Brazilian music can be experimental, electronic and still original,” said Lauro Netto, the brand manager of LRG Brasil.
For Beatwise, the release marks more than just their second year of existence. It comes alongside the announcement of their first sub-label, Zambi Records, a label focused on attending to the needs of the aspiring producer. Zambi hopes to expose new sounds that aren’t directly connected to the Beat/Bass music universe, through short EPs and Mixtapes that complimentary to the larger Beatwise universe.
